It is 1986 in the middle of nowhere in the southern Swedish province of Skåne. Nineteen-year-old Fredrik’s life doesn’t have much going for it. His parents are both alcoholics and they live apart. Fredrik hates himself, but luckily he loves Nina and she loves him. He also takes comfort in music, especially Depeche Mode, Front 242, and Kraftwerk, the band from Düsseldorf. There are only a few days left before the concert of his own synth-pop band, Vision Moderne, at the community centre. But Nina, who is more curious about the wider world than Fredrik, chooses that day to tell him that she is leaving to study photography in far-away Stockholm. And things are getting worse for him at home as well. The whole time he’s been trying to write a song called "Love Will Save Us". But will it? Composer and filmmaker Patrik Blomberg Book has made a movie about the power of creativity as a survival strategy, catapulting us into the dark emotional world of a 1980s teen and his electronic post-punk subculture.
