Born in the Jungle

Feature-length film, Czechia/Latvia 2026

In Caracas, Venezuela of the 1950s, Elizabeth (9) is not happy when her mother picks her up in a decrepit plane to spend the holidays with her family in the jungle. Lizi would much rather hang out with her school friends, instead of stuck in the boring rain forest, and all its ghost stories, which she’s way too old for anyway. Upon arrival, Lizi is tasked with looking out for her little brother Leo, who promptly proceeds to disappear into the jungle. While she’s looking for Leo, Lizi runs afoul of a couple of poachers. They have captured a lot of jungle animals, including something that looks like a kind of flying rabbit-hamster, a mystical creature that Lizi and Leo dub "Fluffy". As the two children save Fluffy from the poachers, Lizi learns to see her little brother, the jungle and its inhabitants with new eyes. "Born in the Jungle" is a colourful, animated adventure based on a book by children’s author Luīze Pastore that was inspired by the life of Latvian explorer Aleksandrs Laime.
