The Child

Feature-length film, Lithuania/Latvia 2026

Available on 11/4/26, 6:00 PM
Since Zane (39) ended her career as a professional swimmer five years ago, she has focused entirely on her desire to become a mother. The wish dominates her daily life around the clock. During swimming lessons, she slips off to the toilet to give herself injections. Her cycle dictates how Zane and her husband Kaspars plan their free time. Birthday invitations and other engagements are cancelled so they can coordinate their intimacy with her ovulation. Zane’s face darkens whenever she encounters mothers with children. Although the film portrays her desire to have children empathetically, it opens up further observations. As a former high-performance athlete, Zane is used to drilling her body, yet now it's beyond her control. With her biological clock ticking down, she clings desperately to every medical option, yet at the same time loses sight of her relationship with her husband. A surprising turn of events in the couple’s life takes place in the water – Zane’s element.
