Isolated

The sense of time is a little different on Utö. The ferry only comes once a week to this isolated island off the coast of Finland. Life does go on here, including the usual pitfalls. A couple sends their child to the grandparents, a visitor is with her lover and forgets the time. An investor is currently the only guest at an island guesthouse. Appearing from nowhere, sudden vibrations and, later, painful, high-frequency noise shake the community. The electricity goes out, all contacts are cut. Boats disappear and rats jump into the water. Leaving the island seems impossible.
