“How would you begin to tell your story?” the director asks protagonist Karla at the beginning of the film. Karla grew up in the small Mexican town of Tepoztlán at the foot of the sacred mountain Tepozteco, which watches over fertility and winds. There isn't much for teenagers to do there. TikTok and the Internet community are their platform for discovering their own identity. Karla is trans and is constantly confronted with prejudice and discrimination in her everyday life. Her parents, former punks, and her colourful, diverse circle of friends support her. Being different is never easy, and even less so in conservative Mexican society. But Karla unwaveringly follows her own path outside of gender binarity. Kani Lapuerta accompanied Karla with his camera for more than eight years. Together, they comment on the images. The result is a humorous portrait full of confidence, glitter, and empowerment.
