Silent Trilogy

What do they have in common – the man with the sad face who is selling what few things he owns, and the resolute lighthouse keeper with the aviator goggles who wants to find her brother in space? And what connects these two eccentrics with moonshiners who have inherited a pig and a cart? They are kindred spirits, people on the fringes looking for their little slice of happiness. They live in their own worlds, which the film lovingly fleshes out with a great attention to detail. They don’t need to say much because they wear their feelings on their sleeves, faces, and gestures. Their melancholy moods are presented in multifaceted ways. They also invite the audience to laugh together about life. This wonderous feature, which pays homage to the time when images first learned to walk, is made up of three short silent films – "Scrap-Mattila and the Beautiful Woman" (2012), "The Moonshiners" (2017), and "A Planet Far Away" (2023) – which Kuosmanen has set to a remarkable score.
