Laine’s name means “little wave”, and that’s how she feels as a swell of problems crashes over her. Her parents have separated without warning and Laine is trying to be father and mother to her little brother without ending up as flotsam and jetsam in her own life. She neglects her studies and questions everything, especially herself. Trying to find her place in the world and her own identity, she increasingly begins to question her sexuality. She numbs her growing loss of control with drugs and excessive partying in the vibrant rave culture of Latvia’s capital, Riga. There, for a few hours at least, Laine can simply be. But when her best friend Gunda is raped, Laine completely loses it. Her grip on reality becomes more and more tenuous as the young adult hurtles toward an uncertain future.
