The whole first season! The rental of this series is limited. Once the maximum number of rentals is reached, the series will no longer be available for rental.
The MeToo revolution hasn’t yet reached Skarpi, an old-time sports legend who is down on his luck and coasting on his past handball World Cup glory in the 1990s. But when he disgraces the handball association, he’s assigned to return to his small hometown of Mosfellsbær to coach a young women’s handball team – if he proves himself with the ladies, he might be allowed to coach the men later. It’s an uneasy combination – the young women aren’t sure about this washed-up, old-school coach and his misogynist comments, but he might have to open his mind as he learns some new tricks from these impressive young women.
"Balls” offers another nuanced role for top Icelandic actor Ingvar E. Sigurðsson, who has previously appeared in acclaimed films such as "A White, White Day” (2019), "Jar City” (2006), and "Everest” (2015). Icelandic writer/director Hafsteinn Gunnar Sigurðsson brings the cinematic eye and wry sense of humour on display in his past films such as "Under the Tree” (2017) and "Either Way” (2011). The festival will screen the first two episodes in the cinema, and the rest of the series can be found on our VOD platform.
