Fifteen Zero Three Nineteenth of January Two Thousand Sixteen

Biography/Equality / Human Rights, Sweden 2024

A silent apartment in a housing estate in Uppsala's banlieue. The abandoned room of a young man. Carolina looks out of the window and relates the story of the day in 2016 when her life changed forever. While she was with her partner on a trip to Las Vegas that they had won, she learned that both her sons, aged 15 and 18, had been shot right in front of the building. The younger son is dead and the elder one is fighting for his life in the hospital, where he will spend months in a coma. Her 13-year-old daughter saw the whole thing from the window. Carolina took the first flight home and went directly to the hospital. Since then, she has put all her energy into fighting youth violence. Alongside other mothers, she works on prevention and in the political arena, trying to ensure that all young people are afforded the prospects that would keep them out of the gang wars that have plagued Sweden’s suburbs for decades. This is a gentle, oppressive film about the synchronicity of sorrow and activism.
