The film’s very first images make clear what's at stake for Erik: the field of wheat he's standing in seems to stretch out to the horizon and beyond – and he will soon be responsible for farming it. Yet on his father Gorm's sixty-fifth birthday, the family patriarch and head of the farm has a surprise in store. Instead of picking him to continue running the successful business, his father instead places that responsibility in the hands of Astrid, Erik's younger sister. Her relationship with her two brothers is anything but easy – and she hasn't had anything to do with agriculture for quite some time … In this visually stunning drama series, Martin Zandvliet explores topics such as loyalty and the thirst for power. Nuanced acting by the entire cast turns this into a fascinating study of the dark depths of the human psyche, from jealousy to hypocrisy. Those who sow discord will reap a terrible harvest.
